First Due Technical Rescue – Route 8

At approximately 12:30 PM, Sandisfield Fire Department was dispatched to mile marker 0.6 on Route 8 for a report of a hunter injured down a 25-foot embankment.

Car 26 arrived on scene with Squad 26 and established command. Ten Sandisfield firefighters responded, arriving within 10 minutes. Squad 26, staffed with three rope technicians, entered the woods and located the patient approximately 1500 feet in, confirming the individual was down a steep embankment.

Due to the challenging terrain and distance, a technical rope rescue was initiated. Colebrook Fire and Riverton Fire were requested for additional manpower and specialized rope rescue equipment.

Crews worked for approximately one hour to safely extricate the patient. In total, 19 firefighters operated on scene. The patient was transported by Sandisfield Ambulance to a local hospital with a leg injury and possible hypothermia.
